Two women injured in acid attack in Muzaffarnagar

Even as the nation is mourning the death of Delhi rape victim, one unidentified person threw concentrated acid on two women on Sunday in Aryapuri area of Muzaffarnagar.

One victim, who received nearly 45% acid burn injuries, has been referred to Meerut for treatment. The police have launched hunt for the attacker.

According to reports, Indra colony residents, Usha, 37, wife of Ashok Sharma and Boby, 37, wife of Praveen, had gone to Shiv Chowk Market for shopping in the evening. While coming back home on cycle rickshaw one attacker poured acid on the two women near Aryapuri colony.

Usha was main target of acid attack, the other woman, Boby, sitting next to her also received injuries.

Both victims were immediately rushed to district hospital from where Usha was sent to Meerut for better treatment. She had received burn injuries on her face and stomach.

The attacker, who had covered his face with blanket, managed to escape after the crime.

Chief medical superintendent district hospital Dr RM Chaudhury said while Usha had received 45% burn injuries Boby suffered 10% injuries.

Circle officer (City) Sanjeev Bajpai said that a police team has been formed to track down the criminal.

The police were waiting for Usha’s statement for further identification of culprit.

Significantly a candle march under tight police security was going on in the city over death of Delhi rape victim when the crime was committed.
