Two women lawyers were injured on Thursday when police lathicharged a mob which was protesting against the death of a scooterist here.
The scooterist was killed when a loaded truck ran over him in front of the deputy commissioner's office here, police said.
Angry over the incident, the lawyers who were inside the nearby Jorhat Bar Association office and people present there went on a rampage, they said.
The protesters damaged vehicles parked in the deputy commissioner's office compound and blocked the main road outside.
Police resorted to lathicharge to control the mob injuring the two women lawyers, who were later admitted to Jorhat Medical College Hospital here.
The protesters shouted slogans demanding an overbridge connecting the deputy commissioner's office and the Lawyers Association office, police said.
The lawyers also filed an FIR against the district administration's alleged failure to construct the bridge, which has been a long-standing demand.
