In a shocking outcome, a two year old baby boy was detected with Polio in Baddi area of Solan district on Saturday.
The child is presently in Badayun district of Uttar Pradesh with his parents who are migratory laborers and were working in Baddi from last few years, said Director Health Dr Nagesh Sharma.
He said that the child was detected polio in Uttar Pradesh only few days back after he was felt some symptoms about Polio in Baddi.
“When the child was in Baddi, he felt some illness following which the parents took him to a local doctor. Thereafter, the parents shifted to Badayun where he was detected Polio by the government doctors,” said the Director Health.
He said that as the child also lived in Baddi for many occasions during the last two years, health department, following the orders of World Health Organisation, has decided to launch special polio drops drive on December 6 in the peripheral areas of Baddi.
Sources said that the child had got birth in Baddi about two years back and the detection of this polio case in Himachal is a shocking set back to the zero-surveillance Polio state.
When asked about this outcome, Director Health said although the department ensures that every child gets the polio drops during the drive.
“But in case of migratory people it becomes very difficult to ensure their participation in the Polio campaign as they very often shift one place to another for want of labour,” stated the director.
Sources said that similar case was reported about few days back in the peripheral areas of Baddi which lies in Punjab.
This is the second case of Polio in Himachal after 2005 when a child was witnessed polio in Nirmand area of Kullu district.
