Huge concessions, announced by the UK government on Tuesday, are expected to trigger an exodus of Indian students to universities here. University students will be able to obtain a degree in two years, rather than three, to allow them to start work earlier and cut debt.

Bringing foreign students to the UK has become a major economic consideration for cash-strapped universities. Indian students are attractive because they pay three times the tuition fee compared to locals and students from EU countries. Besides, Indians have been found to be studious and eager to work.

With the number of years for an honours degree being cut to two, Indians will have to pay one third less in tuition fee. The expenses for accommodation and living will also go down substantially. Besides, they will be allowed to work in the UK for at least a year after they finish their graduation.
