ULFA plans to use students to plant bombs in run-up to I-Day

The security in sensitive areas in Guwahati was stepped up after intelligence reports that the banned ULFA was recruiting school and college students to carry out blasts in Guwahati in the run up to the Independence Day, police said on Saturday.

IGP (Law and Order) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta told reporters in Guwahati that the police had received intelligence reports that the outfit was taking the help of students to plant bombs in vulnerable areas the city.

The police have stepped up security in vulnerable areas, Mahanta said.

Meanwhile, a woman bomb expert of the ULFA's 709 battalion was arrested in Guwahati on Friday.
