Hectic preparations are on in the Madhya Pradesh temple town of Ujjain for the launch of expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti's new party on Sunday.

The day happens to be Akshay Tritiya, an auspicious date according to the Hindu calendar, sources close to her said.

"Bharati would start the day by visiting various temples after which she would declare her new party and unveil the party flag anytime between 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm -- the auspicious time," said Prahlad Patel, a former central minister and a staunch Uma supporter.

"She would also hold a public meeting at Tower Chowk, Ujjain, at 5.30 pm where the formation of the party would be celebrated," he said.

Patel refused to disclose the name of the party, but sources close to Bharati said: "The flag would be of saffron colour with a rising sun on while the party would be christened Bharatiya Janrakshak Party."

Patel said Bharti was providing an "alternative for the honest and dedicated workers of BJP", which according to her would "soon be finished".
