Defying their leader's announcement, Uma Bharti's candidates in Gujarat have refused to withdraw from the electoral fray.
Umeshdutt Mathur, the Bharatiya Jana Shakti Party in-charge in the state declared on Thursday that all its 54 nominees in the assembly polls were still very much in the contest. Asked about Bharti's statement, he said he had not been in touch with her for the past three days. "We have received no direction to withdraw," he said.
Bharti had announced on Wednesday that her partymen would not fight the election and she was considering going back to the BJP.
