Incessant rainfall on Saturday morning showered woes on Una residents as rainwater inundated roads and agricultural land and entered into low-lying buildings.
Traffic on the Una-Hoshiarpur road had to be diverted as rainwater flooded streets and roads, and some link roads were blocked for a few hours. Water also entered into houses, commercial establishments and offices, and thousands of kanals of agriculture land lying along the tributaries of Swan river were inundated.
According to the meteorological department, the district received 153 mm rainfall on Saturday, bringing the total precipitation in the district to 764 mm.
With two and a half months to go for the end of the season (June 1 to September 30), the district has already surpassed the average monsoon rainfall, estimated at 600 to 700 mm. The district records total annual rainfall of about 1,000 mm.
According to a report released by the district administration, the district has suffered a loss of Rs 73 crore due to heavy rain between June 15 and 30.
