An unclaimed handbag in the domestic arrival area of the airport in Chennai created some tension before security personnel took it away for inspection on Thursday.

The handbag was spotted beside some trolleys near Gate Number 2 by CISF personnel manning the airport, CISF sources said.

There were additional security personnel at the airport owing to the flow of VIPs and others arriving in Chennai after attending the funeral of former President APJ Abdul Kalam at Rameswaram, the sources said.

Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, BS Yeddyurappa, the former CM Karnataka and BJP Tamil Nadu unit president Tamilisai Soundarajan were among those who arrived in Chennai.
