In yet another case of kidnapping in Ghaziabad, the police rescued a two-and-half year old boy, who had allegedly been abducted from Bhopra, Sahibabad by two of his own relatives and their four accomplices. They had demanded Rs 20 lakh as ransom.
Gyanendra Singh’s son was allegedly abducted from outside his house by his own uncles, Sonu Gujar and Anuj Kumar.
The two, along with four of their friends, hatched a conspiracy to kidnap the minor boy.
All the six are unemployed and in the age-group of 20-22 years.
Police said that the accused kidnapped the child and kept him at a rented accommodation in Noida. Then they called Singh and asked him for Rs 20 lakh in return for the child.
Since Singh had brought up Gujar after his father’s death, he called him and apprised him about the kidnapping.
Sonu joined Singh in search for the child at Ghaziabad and even persuaded him to hand over the money to the kidnappers.
“We got suspicious when he kept trying to convince his uncle to pay the ransom. We sent three teams to trace the hideouts,” Raghubir Lal, senior superintendent of police (SSP), said, adding, “We planned to hand over the ransom amount and told the kidnappers to meet us near Karhera.”
The kidnappers then shifted the child to another rented location at Karhera where they were eventually nabbed by the police after a brief encounter at around 2.25am on Thursday.
“My child was familiar with the accused, so he went with them without any resistance. I never thought that these two (Gujar and Kumar), who are like my own sons, would do this to me. They had threatened to slash my son’s throat if the ransom money was not paid,” said Gyanendra Singh.
After the arrest, Gujar told the police that he planned on killing the child after getting the ransom money. He wanted to buy two plots of land with it.
