An undertrial allegedly threw slippers at a civil judge in Kurukshetra court on Wednesday.

Though the judge (junior division), Sunil Kumar, escaped the missile, accused Neeraj Kumar, 30, was overpowered by an escort party.

Sources said the accused had been lodged in the Kurukshetra district jail since October 16, 2012.

Neeraj was allegedly involved in a theft case registered at the Ladwa police station. Later, he was declared a proclaimed offender in the case after he escaped the police arrest.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Nirmal Singh told Hindustan Times that Neeraj was produced in the court in the Ladwa case on Wednesday.

"As the accused was about to move out of the court room after the hearing, he removed his slippers and threw them on the judge. Fortunately, the slippers did not hit the judicial officer and fell near his chair," said the DSP.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered on the complaint of the judge's reader.
