Unemployment dole: Special function planned

AS CHIEF Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav proposed to dole out the first installment of ?unemployment allowance? to graduates and post-graduates of Lucknow division at a special function, the State Government asked district officials to provide free buses to ferry youth from tehsil headquarters to Ambedkar Park here on June 16.

AS CHIEF Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav proposed to dole out the first installment of ‘unemployment allowance’ to graduates and post-graduates of Lucknow division at a special function, the State Government asked district officials to provide free buses to ferry youth from tehsil headquarters to Ambedkar Park here on June 16.

Chief secretary Naveen Chand Bajpai asked district officers to make arrangements to provide breakfast and lunch to youths in buses. The Health Department was asked to conduct the necessary food tests before giving breakfast and lunch to the unemployed youth. The chief secretary asked officers to make seating arrangements for nearly 50,000 persons at the waterproof pandal being erected at the Ambedkar Park. Besides deploying teams of doctors at the venue, the officers were also asked to keep at least 10 ambulances ready to meet any eventuality. All hospitals and primary health centres were also placed on alert.

All eligible graduates and the postgraduates registered with the employment exchanges up to February 28 were asked to attend the function.

The chief secretary presided over a meeting convened to review the arrangements for the function at the Ambedkar Park. Besides commissioner Lucknow, RK Mittal, the district magistrates of all districts under Lucknow division attended the meeting.

Principal secretary Labour Anil Kumar Gupta said the State government had released a sum of Rs 200 crore to provide the ‘unemployment allowance’ of Rs 500 per month. By 2 pm today about 14,000 youths of Lucknow division had got themselves enrolled to attend the function, he said.
