The captain of the Kirori Mal College (KMC) hockey team was allegedly beaten by a group of youngsters on Friday evening, the police said.

The victim, Yudhishtir Chowdhury, was beaten in the canteen of the college premises. Chowdhury is also a member of the Delhi University (DU) hockey team.

Police said Chowdhury and his friends had a tiff with some boys of another college few days ago. The police was called and a compromise was reached.

On Friday, Chowdhury alleged that some members of the same gang turned up at the college premises and thrashed him.

A call was made to the police control room.

Chowdhury, who was critically injured, was admitted to St Stephens Hospital where he was operated, police said. A case under relevant sections has been registered at the Maurice Nagar police station.

“He told us that he can identify one of the men who beat him. We are taking due action,” said Karnal Singh, joint commissioner of police (northern range).
