The mutilated body of a girl, who went missing six days ago, was found near a field on Sunday in Kanraura village of Unnao district, a day after her sister’s body was found hanging from a tree just 20 metres away.

Acid was found to have been used to disfigure the faces of both the girls — Pooja, 16, whose body was found on Sunday, and her elder sister Aarti, whose body was found on Saturday night.

Pooja’s body was recovered with limbs severed and buried close by. Her clothes were found in the dense bushes nearby.

Ganga Ghat circle officer RK Singh said: “The body appears to be three to four days old. We have sent it for autopsy.”

Preliminary investigations suggest that the girls, residents of Mustafapur, were beaten up by their family members for having affairs. Cops are probing rape-murder and honour killing angles. The girls were last spotted walking towards a jungle near the village on August 31.

The girls’ family had filed a complaint with the Gangaghat police blaming two locals — Arastu and Balaji — for coaxing the girls into eloping with them.
