The Vice-Chancellor of University of Western Australia, Perth, Alan Robson on Thursday said that certain "unscrupulous agents" operating in India were bringing students to his country with "false expectations" and landing them in trouble.

"Unscrupulous agents are bringing Indian students to Australia with the false expectations like a permanent job. But most of the Indian students are ending up as taxi drivers, that too on night shifts. Such students had become the subject of some attacks in the recent past," Robson, who was on a visit to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad along with a team of scientists, said.

The Vice Chancellor said that only a few students who were enrolled in private colleges in Australia had faced attacks in Melbourne and Sydney.

"No student of any university has been attacked and not a single case has been reported in Perth. Australia has a very tolerant multi-cultural society. Not only students from India but also those from south-east Asian countries have endorsed that there is no racism," Robson pointed out.
