A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Nawabganj area of Bareilly city and her disrobed body was found lying in a pool of blood in a field with wooden twigs in her private parts, police said.
According to the police, the girl was the daughter of daily wage labourers and a student of Class 4. She had left her house on Friday afternoon to call her mother, who was working in the sugarcane fields, when she was allegedly abducted and raped.
The girl’s body was spotted at around 4 pm by villagers, who later informed the police. Deputy inspector general Ashutosh Kumar and superintendent of police (rural) Brijesh Srivastava reached the spot with a forensic field unit and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
“The body was lying near a pool of blood and there were clear signs of external injury. The field unit has collected samples from the spot and sent for further investigation,” said the SP. “Prima facie it appears that more than two people were involved in the incident.”
A complaint has been registered against unidentified people in the case at the Nawabganj police station. The police have initially charged the unknown accused with abduction and murder.
“Charges of sexual assault will be added to the charge-sheet once it is proved in the post mortem examination,” said the SP.
