CBI inquiry

The response to the state government’s request for a CBI inquiry into the murder of Kunda police officer Zia-ul-Haq is yet to come. So is any breakthrough in the case by the local police.

Forget evidence on the alleged involvement of former minister and Kunda legislator Raghuraj Pratap Singh, alias Raja Bhaiya, even three days after the murder, the police are yet to get clarity on one of the key points: Whether Haq was really shot by his own service revolver.

It is equally a mystery who the killer was. Was it one of the killers of gram pradhan Nanhey Yadav about to be caught or was it a conspiracy in which someone in the mob shothttp://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2013/3/06_03_13-metro9b.jpg Haq?

The police have failed to recover Haq’s revolver and his cellphone. “It is still not clear who snatched them,” said a police officer. On Tuesday, the police launched a search in the village but drew a blank.

The bullet which caused Haq’s death has not been recovered either. In its absence, the police cannot say that Haq was shot with his own revolver. “A metal detector is being used to trace the missing bullet,” said Arun Kumar, ADG, law and order. Director general of police AC Sharma said,“The probe is on and we will crack the case soon”.

The relatives of Balipur’s slain gram pradhan Nanhey Yadav, meanwhile, sat on a dharna on Tuesday, demanding a visit by the CM, payment of compensation and security. The CM is expected to visit the family on Wednesday.

More trouble for Raja
The CBI, which has been probing the food scam in which Singh was allegedly involved, has asked the IT department to probe into his assets. The CBI had also taken into consideration a diary of Singh’s former PRO Rajiv Kumar Yadav, which had a record of money given to Singh.
