UP government tightens security in Varanasi

The commandos, trained by the National Security Guards, Border Security Force and the army for the purpose of their deployment in the temple-mosque complex.

The Uttar Pradesh Government has deployed a platoon of specially trained commandos from the provincial armed constabulary (PAC) in and around the Kashi Vishwanath temple-Gyanvapi mosque complex to tighten security arrangements, a senior police official said on Saturday.

The commandos, comprising one sub-inspector, two head constables and 27 jawans, joined the security of the sensitive religious place on Friday night, Assistant Superintendent of Police (security) Jugal Kishore said in Varanasi.

The commandos, trained by the National Security Guards, Border Security Force and the army for the purpose of their deployment in the temple-mosque complex, would act as the quick strike force in the event of any threat to the religious place, he said.
