UP Govt increases seats in colleges, universities

The Uttar Pradesh Government has increased 25 per cent seats in undergraduate classes of state universities and degree colleges and directed the education department to run evening classes and open additional sections to accommodate students.
While increasing the seats, in the wake of a remarkable result of state board examinations, availability of teachers should also be kept in mind to ensure quality in higher education, state Higher Education minister Ram Asrey Vishwakarma said on Friday.
The minister, while holding a meeting of officers of higher education department and registrar of universities, directed them to complete all admission formalities by August 31 and ensure that students did not face any problem.
The government had also opened 187 centres of Rajshri Tondon state open university so that students did not face any admission problem, he said, adding that vice chancellors had been directed to start centres of open universities.
The state government has also directed them to lodge FIRs against those running fake universities and colleges, he said.
