In a bid to save electricity, Uttar Pradesh government has issued orders to replace the use of conventional bulbs in government offices with compact florescent lamps (CFL).

The order was issued by Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta on Thursday which said that CFLs should be used in place of conventional bulbs, official sources said in Lucknow on Friday.

"All bulbs have to be replaced by the CFLs and defective chokes of the tube lights will be replaced by the electronic chokes," the order said.

The orders were issued to all the Principal Secretaries, District Magistrates, Divisional Commissioners, heads of department, MDs of various corporations and chief executive officers of other government-owned institutions.
