THE CONGRESS on Tuesday accused Mulayam Singh Yadav government of not utilising funds that Centre had allocated to Uttar Pradesh under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). It has demanded resignation of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for his failure to send proposals to get more funds to implement various centrally sponsored schemes in the State.

AICC secretary Praveen Rashtrapal, talking to mediapersons here, listed a number of central-sponsored schemes where the State’s performance was dismal. The Centre had allocated a sum of Rs 332.42 crore under the (NREGS) launched in 22 districts of Uttar Pradesh, he said. Yet only 212 job cards were issued in Unnao, Rashtrapal said. If number of job cards issued by the State was to be compared with other states, Uttar Pradesh would figure at the lowest, he said adding a large amount of funds remained unutilised in UP.

There were also reports of rampant corruption in the implementation of the scheme, he said adding that Yadav  had obviously announced payment of ‘unemployment allowance’ only to counter and make the Centre-sponsored scheme a failure. Rashtra Pal said instead of taking part in protests, the CM should slash the rate of trade tax on petrol and diesel.
