The Uttar Pradesh Government has recommended a CBI probe into the multicore provident Fund (PF) scam in Ghaziabad district.
The formal recommendation to the Centre was made on Wednesday night, official sources said in Lucknow.
The police had arrested 67 court employees for allegedly withdrawing PF money on fake forms. Names of senior judicial officers from Delhi and Allahabad High courts also figured in the case, sources said.
The Bar Council of Ghaziabad has been demanding a CBI probe into the scam and even approached the Allahabad High Court and later the Supreme Court, which had asked the state government to submit an affidavit as to why the probe into the scam could not be handed over to the CBI.
Though recommendation was made immediately after the apex court hearing by the state government, the Home department officials did not make it public.
When asked Additional Director General, Law and Order Brijlal told PTI that the police headquarter had recommended a CBI probe into the matter to the Home department way back in June.
