Repeated attempts by NTBCL to hike the toll tax have elicited protest from Noida authority and residents.

Now, the state government has formulated rules to make sure nothing is done arbitrarily regarding connecting facilities which will be operational at the beginning of the next

fiscal. Under the Indian Toll Act 1851, the state government has formulated Uttar Pradesh Expressway Rules 2010 (levy of toll and fixing of fees and realisation), to settle basic rates and annual hikes.

The base rates have been fixed between R0.80 and R5.25 per kilometre for different types of vehicles. Annual hike formula based on the wholesale price index has been provided.

"Toll rules were necessary. They have been formulated in view of several expressway projects in the state which are under implementation," Federation of Noida Resident Welfare Association president NP Singh said.
