With two more children succumbing to Encephalitis in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the death toll from the viral disease has climbed to 607 this year, a senior health official said on Thursday.
"Two persons have succumbed to the viral disease over the last 24 hours. While one person died in Deoria near here, the disease claimed another life in Gorakhpur medical college," said the official.
With the two deaths, the total number of people who have succumbed to the disease in Uttar Pradesh alone has climbed to 607, he said.
Meanwhile, District administration officials met here yesterday and decided to set up a team of trainers to sensitise people about Encephalitis and help rehabilitate patients.
"In the first stage, 100 volunteers will be selected to undergo training at Vikas Bhawan and BRD Medical College Hospital here," said Gorakhpur District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar.
The two-day training would cover the theoretical and practical aspects of Encephalitis, he said, adding pictorial teaching modules in simple language have been prepared for the session.
