Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday expressed concern over the rise in cases of cancer and said his government was working in the direction of providing best treatment in the state.
"The previous Samajwadi Party government, led by Mulayam Singh Yadav, wanted to set up a cancer institute in Lucknow and this was also mentioned in the ruling party manifesto as well as in government's budget," the chief minister said.
He was responding to an adjournment notice by Congress members during Zero Hour.
"Treatment of the disease included detection, its treatment (operation) and rehabilitation of the patient and the government is working in the direction for which a place has been identified," Akhilesh said.
The Congress, through the notice, had demanded hospitals with facility for detection of the disease in bigger cities having a population of more than 30 lakhs as private nursing homes are fleecing people by putting up machines required for it.
