Two men allegedly raped a 19-year-old woman, while her brother was held at gunpoint in Saharanpur district on Saturday.
Police said the siblings were returning from Kurukshetra district in Haryana in the evening and took a lift in the car of the accused.
The siblings, who are residents of Chilkana town, told police that four men were sitting inside the car.
They said the driver took the car to a jungle between Kunda and Begi villages, near Gangoh town. The men then dragged the brother and sister out of the car and took them to a nearby field.
Two of the men raped the woman while the other two held her brother at gunpoint.
The accused escaped after some villagers passing by heard the commotion.
Gangoh police have registered a case.
Saharanpur deputy inspector general (DIG) Ragubeer Lal said he had directed the Saharanpur senior superintendent of police to monitor investigations in the case.
However, police said there were some discrepancies in the victims’ statements.
"We are probing the matter. But so far we have found some inconsistency in the victims’ statements," the DIG said.
