UPEOA protests BSA murder

Association staged a dharna at the Basic Education Directorate here on Monday, in protest against the murder of Shrawasti basic shiksha adhikari Vinod Kumar Verma. Senior officials, including Secondary Education director Sanjay Mohan and Joint Education director SVB Singh, participated in a demonstration.

THE KILLING of a colleague brought them on to the streets. Members of the UP Education Officers’ Association staged a dharna at the Basic Education Directorate here on Monday, in protest against the murder of Shrawasti basic shiksha adhikari Vinod Kumar Verma.

Senior officials, including Secondary Education director Sanjay Mohan and Joint Education director SVB Singh, participated in a demonstration. The officers expressed anger at the police failure to arrest the assailants. They demanded compensation for the victim’s family and a government job for the next of kin.

The officers held a condolence meeting which Basic Education secretary JS Deepak and others attended. Thereafter, they staged a dharna outside the Basic Education Directorate.

Later, in the evening, the UP Education Officers’ Association sent a letter to Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, demanding immediate arrest of the BSA’s killers. They also urged the CM to provide division and district-level officials with security. They sought compensation for Verma’s family and a government job for his wife.

They said officials should be kept free from the task of creating schools in the district.They expressed concern over the recent incidents of violence against education officers in the state.  This year has witnessed eight incidents. Those attacked were: Rae Bareli district inspector of schools Gyan Prakash Singh, Gorakhpur joint director Amarnath Verma, Faizabad BSA Devi Sahai, Rae Bareli BSA Dharmendra Saxena and Basti BSA Shiv Chandra, to name a few.

The association has decided to continue its stir on Tuesday.
