Highlight Story

Amidst unruly scenes, Orissa Assembly was adjourned four times on Thursday as opposition members stormed into the well and tried to climb on the Speaker's table alleging collapse of law and order machinery in Balangir town.

As soon as the house assembled for the day, Congress MLAs trooped into the well demanding a statement by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on mob violence in Balangir town yesterday after a man was hit by a police van.

Unable to conduct business, the Speaker Kishore Mohanty adjourned the house four times. The house will resume business at 4.30 pm.

Some of the members were seen trying to snatch papers from the Speaker's table and climb on it accusing the administration of failing to deal properly with the situation.

Proceedings of the house were stalled for the last three days as opposition accused the ruling BJD of using black money and misusing official power in recent urban bodies elections in Cuttack and Baripada.
