UPTU orders probe into ?paper leak?

india Updated: Dec 15, 2006 11:13 IST

THE UP TECHNICAL University (UPTU) has ordered a probe into how BAMS students of Agra’s RBS College were given Mechanical Engineering paper instead of Maths on Wednesday.

The probe would focus on whether the ‘mechanical engineering paper leak’ was by design or default. On Thursday, however the UPTU sent a second set of Mechanical Engineering paper and conducted the examination. UPTU V-C Prof Prem Vrat said that guilty would be dealt with sternly. Interestingly, the ‘paper leak’ was noticed only after some students pointed out that they had been given wrong question paper. Even as harried invigilators started collecting the question papers, one of the examinees reportedly, hid the Mechanical Engineering paper. During counting, the officials found one paper short.

However, since the varsity sent a second set of question papers for the Mechanical Engineering exam on Thursday, indefinite postponement of the paper concerned was not found necessary. Still, the V-C was reportedly very upset with the lapse on the part of the college authorities. Now, that the probe is on, the V-C has sent clear instructions to find out, at which stage did the lapse actually took place and if it was deliberate. “Such things are very upsetting, indeed,” an UPTU official said.
