RECOUNSELLING FOR about 4,000 vacant seats for those candidates who took the State Entrance Exam (SEE) of the UP Technical University (UPTU) has again been postponed.
“The re-counselling, scheduled from October 8 to 10, at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) on Sitapur Road, has been postponed for the second time following court directives,” UPTU registrar US Tomar said.
The Welfare Association of Self Financed Institutes, Greater Noida had filed a writ petition (440340/2006) before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, challenging the decision of not making direct admission to various colleges through re-counselling.
However, after the High Court decided that only those candidates who took UPSEE would be eligible for the re-counselling, the UPTU fixed October 8 to 10 for admitting candidates to the vacant seats.
But the association filed a special appeal 1226/2006 in the court after which the UPTU was ordered to postpone its re-counselling again. With the first semester exams of the varsity due to start in December, the biggest question is whether the re-counselling will be held at all . If it is held, the students will suffer due to inadequate preparation time.
The UPTU officials are blaming the colleges for the delay. “We were serious about holding re-counselling. But the colleges have again moved the court.
What can we do? It will be up to the colleges to complete the course by holding extra classes ,” an official said.
