The chairman of the powerful US Congressional Foreign Relations Committee, Ed Royce, has condoled the death of former Union minister Murli Deora, who passed away in Mumbai on November 24, and said he will be missed in India and as a friend to the United States.
In a letter to his son, Milind Deora, Congressman Royce expressed his deepest condolences and said, “While the loss of a parent or a loved one is never easy, you can take solace in knowing that your father lived a remarkable life.
“Serving as Mayor of Mumbai, a member of the Lok Sabha, minister of petroleum and natural gas and minister of corporate affairs, Sri Deora dedicated himself to public service. His positive impact on the lives of his fellow countrymen is immeasurable.
“Beyond this commitment, Sri Deora was well respected among all segments of Indian politics, as is evidenced by the outpouring of expressions of sorrow and adulation from a diversity of political leaders. He will not only be missed in India, but as a friend of the United States, he will certainly be missed by those who have worked hard to promote US-India relations.
“Again, please accept my sincerest condolences to you and your family as you mourn the loss of your father.”
