Iran took down United States' virtual embassy in Tehran within 24 hours of its launch.
The US had launched it without much fanfare on Tuesday afternoon. It was supposed to simply show Iranians a bit of the US and how to get there. Iran blocked it calling it an intrusion.
This was the first case of a country launching a virtual embassy for a country with which it does not have diplomatic ties, and, in another first, the "host" country shut it down.
"Through this action, the Iranian government has once again demonstrated its commitment to build an electronic curtain of surveillance and censorship around its people," said the White House.
