Sania Mirza returned to her happy hunting ground, Flushing Meadows, and humbled Karolina Sprem of Croatia in straight sets to advance into the round two of the US Open.
She will next play Francesca Schiavone of Italy.
Sania, who has had an indifferent form in the singles this year, looked imperious as she swept away the Croat 6-4, 6-2 in 75 minutes.
The 19-year old Hyderabadi dominated right from the start and with better serve and thunderous returns, pocketed the opening set 6-4.
One up, there was no stopping Sania and she lost just two games en route to win the set and the match.
World No 54 Sania was more composed and she committed 21 unforced error as against 33 by her opponent.
Last year, Sania created history here by becoming first Indian woman to reach the fourth round of the US Open. She eventually lost to Maria Sharapova of Russia in the pre-quarterfinals.
