A few drinks and a squabble soon after got Carlos (name changed) so angry with his mother that he allegedly slit her throat. He made sure that she was dead. He dragged her body from the hotel room to a sand dune and left it there.

Cindy Iannarelli (53) and her 15-year-old son had come to India on vacation from Cecil in Pennsylvania, US, on August 9. On Wednesday, they reached Osian in Jodhpur district,

340 km west of Jaipur, and booked a tent at the Camel Safari Club resort.

On Friday morning, villagers spotted Cindy’s body and informed the police. As Carlos was missing, the police released his photographs taken on Thursday.

The police put up blockades at various exit points and Carlos was finally arrested at Jodhpur airport, about 60 km away.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Girdhari Lal said Carlos had an unhappy family background, as Cindy was living separately from her husband, Richard.

Carlos, who is studying in Italy, has no permanent residence, as he used to frequent both parents’ places. Lal said the autopsy would be done on Saturday only after US embassy officials arrive at Jodhpur.
