Use NAM to correct pro-US policy: CPI(M)
"This is an opportunity for the government to correct its course in India's foreign policy which has been unmistakably drifting towards succumbing to US imperialist pressures in recent times," it said.
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has urged India to play a lead role in the upcoming NAM summit in Cuba so as to "correct" its pro-US foreign policy.
Given India's previous glorious involvement in NAM, "it is only befitting that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is leading the Indian delegation to the summit" in Havana, the CPI(M) organ People's Democracy said in its latest issue.
"This makes it all the more contingent upon India to declare its anti-imperialist positions unequivocally before the world.
"This is an opportunity for the government to correct its course in India's foreign policy which has been unmistakably drifting towards succumbing to US imperialist pressures in recent times," it said.
People's Democracy added that "it is in India's interests that NAM needs to be strengthened" for the sake of the developing world, which the party said faced a hostile and aggressive US.
