A day after more than 30 people were injured in a communal riot in Jahanabad town, in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district, police arrested 27 people allegedly involved in the violence.

Sources said around 300 people have been identified with the help of video footage and the police plan to undertake door-to-door search operations.

“The focus is on initiating preventive action against the rioters,” Fatehpur SP Rajeev Malhotra said, adding that those identified will be booked under Section 107/116 of the CrPC on charges of rioting, attempt to murder and arson.

The police are also contemplating invoking the National Security Act (NSA), said sources.
