Two people who complained to the police against illegal liquor traders in their village in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district have been killed.

Harnam Singh, 30, and Kulwant Singh, 29, had been missing since August 22 after informing the police about the illegal liquor business in Durgapur village on the outskirts of industrial town Kashipur, around 200 km from capital Dehradun.

Their mutilated bodies were found on Sunday in a forest area close to Tumaria Dam. The bodies bore stab wounds and the faces were smashed, said a police official who did not want to be named.

The police have registered an FIR and are questioning people on the complaint of Kulwant’s uncle, who has named 11 persons as suspects.

“We have not made any arrests and are still interrogating (some people),” Devendra Singh Peecha, additional superintendent police, Kashipur, told HT over phone.

Udham Singh Nagar district is notorious for illegal trading and manufacturing of country-made liquor.
