Top political leaders have launched a chopper-blitz in Uttarakhand as the electioneering comes to an end on Monday evening in the state where Assembly polls will be held on February 21.
With just one day left for drumming up public support, several helicopters were dotting the sky in Uttarakhand with top leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and BJP stalwart LK Advani hopping from one rally to another.
With inclement weather playing a spoilsport last week, these leaders were relying more on helicopters as they raced against time to woo voters. Altogether, nearly 15 to 20 helicopters were being used by various political leaders, police officials said.
While, Singh addressed three rallies in the state on Saturday, Gandhi began her second leg of campaign on Sunday addressing rallies in Dehra Dun, Haldwani and Almora.
Congress is mostly relying on the charisma of its top leaders like Singh and Gandhi.
On the other hand, BJP would make a last minute push on Monday with its top leaders, including former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Advani, addressing several election rallies.
BJP has also roped in Bollywood star power with Shatrughan Sinha, Mukesh Khanna, Hema Malini and Smriti Irani criss-crossing the length and breadth of the state to entice electorates and most of them are preferring to travel in helicopeters like their leaders.
Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav have also taken a whirl-wind tour to garner support for their partys candidates.
