SOME LUCKNOW University students are smart businessmen too! So smart that they are using varsity hostel rooms as their commercial outlet.
A few have even established factories inside hostel rooms.
This fact came to light on Wednesday when vice-chancellor Prof RP Singh paid a surprise visit to the College of Arts and Crafts and its hostels.
“To my utter surprise and shock, I found several students in the hostel running private business from the hostel premises. They were using the university machinery, material and even made a workshop here,” Pro Singh said.
Action came fast after the V-C’s surprise visit happened and the varsity authorities immediately sealed the ‘factories’. “We have immediately stopped the work and the students have been asked to remove the material from the campus,” Prof Singh claimed.
Now a list of those who are engaged in this business is being prepared. Nobody would be allowed to use the premises for business use. Strict action will be taken against anyone violating the rules, he said.
The revelation made the authorities to make some changes in the hostel administration of the Arts College hostels. Laljeet Aheer was appointed as its provost and Ravi Kant Pandey the assistant provost. The changes were done to make strict implementation of the rules on the campus and inside hostel premises.
However, the authorities forgot to make an assessment of the earning done by these students till now in order to compute a fine.
