Vandalism at Jinsi Haat dargah

india Updated: Jan 27, 2007 23:33 IST

TWO UNIDENTIFIED miscreants on a motorcycle set afire the chadar at the dargah at Jinsi Haat Maidan on Friday night. They also damaged the railing of the dargah. The police and administration swung into action as soon as they came to know of the incident.

The damaged portion of the dargaha was repaired, and members of the Muslim community were taken into confidence to ensure that there was no adverse reaction against the act of vandalism. Collector Vivek Aggrawal and SP Anshuman Yadav and other police and administrative officials placated the angry members of the community who had gathered at the shrine after they came to know of the incident. Congress leader Kripa Shankar Shukla tried to assuage the feelings of the Muslims.

Though the incident is believed to have occurred at around 2 am, the police came to know about it only in the morning when some devotees came to pay respect at the dargah.
