india Updated: Sep 04, 2006 02:12 IST

WORK WILL come to a halt for a few minutes at 11 am on September 7 in State Government offices, local bodies and panchayat institutions since the employees and public representatives will sing in unison Vande Mataram.

The State Government has decided that the national song  will be sung in all the government offices and panchayat institutions along with all educational institutions on September 7. The State Government on Sunday informed its decision to all commissioners and district vollectors,  according to an official release.

This would mark the centenary celebrations of Vande Mataram following its adoption as a national song. The educational institutions were instructed for the recital of the song.

No force
Uttar Pradesh Imams’ Organisation and Darul Uloom Deoband said nobody should be forced to sing Vande Mataram. “Muslims are loyal to nation and there’s no need to prove their loyalty,” it was said.
