Chhattisgarh government has issued a circular to all educational institutions in the state including madarsas to ensure recital of Vande Mataram on September 7 to mark the centenary celebrations of the national song.
The circular has been issued late on Saturday making the recital of the national song mandatory at 11 am at all educational institutions on that day.
The state's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has issued the notification in the backdrop of a controversy surrounding the national song especially after some minority Muslim figures described a recent similar circular by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry as un-Islamic.
The state government's circular read that first two stanzas of the national song must be recited. The circular has been issued on the instruction of Union Human Resource Ministry, an official said.
Cashing on the recent "Vande Mataram" controversy, the state BJP unit will separately hold national song recital functions in all the 16 districts on Sep 7 to boost national brotherhood, a party leader said on Sunday.
The youth unit of the BJP, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will host special functions and rallies across the state to mark centenary celebrations.
