Varanasi don may have arranged shooters

india Updated: Sep 26, 2006 01:42 IST

A VARANASI-BASED gangster is suspected to have arranged shooters to kill Lucknow Public School owner CP Singh.

Investigations revealed some politicians played a vital role in introducing the gangster to the mastermind behind the murder. The gangster accepted the contract for the killing and sent his boys for the operation. The shooters reportedly belong to Balrampur and Siddharth Nagar districts.

The gangster, whose name figured in several heinous crimes in the State capital earlier, is close to mafia don Vineet Singh. He contested the last assembly election from a Faizabad constituency under the BSP banner.

Sources said the gangster was a regular visitor to Lucknow and had a band of sharp shooters, including two expelled PAC constables. Investigations further revealed the gangster left the city two days before the shootout. The killers left for their hideout in Gonda, provided by the gangster’s close friend, who is an ex-MLA.

A police team is collecting details of the gangster’s cellphone call printouts. Senior police officials have contacted their Varanasi counterparts and sought details of the gangster’s movements.

Another team has been asked to find out more about sharp shooters active in Gonda, Basti, Siddharth Nagar and Balrampur. The investigating team is also keeping a close watch on places in the State capital frequented by criminals.

Cops are collecting details from shooters lodged in the district jail.

SP (East) Ajay Shanker Rai said vital clues were being collected about the shooters and teams were on the job. Senior officials are supervising day-to-day developments in the case and hope it will be worked out very soon.
