Highlight Story

ADMISSIONS TO the seven post graduate management programme run  in Lucknow University for 2007-08 shall be done through CAT examination.

Already the same is in practice for MBA and MEB courses run by business administration department.

LU has recently signed an MoU with the IIM for using the CAT scores for shortlisting the candidates for group discussion and interview to be conducted by the varsity and selecting the candidates based on the overall merit. The business administration department is already a participating institution for IIM, said Pro V-C RS Yadav on Wednesday.

To streamline the admission process for all two years management courses of IMS, it has been decided to do admissions for MBA Corporate Management, MBA Finance and Control, MBA International Business, MBA HR and Industrial Relations, MBA Marketing Economics, MBA Tourism and Master of Management Sciences (MMS) through CAT scores.

Thus admissions to 60 seats each in the above seven programmes of IMS and two that of Business Administration department— MBA and MEB programmes—will be dome under this new arrangement in the next session 2007-08. It may be mentioned here that so far admissions to the seven management programmes of IMS were made through state level l ‘State Entrance Examination conducted by UP Technical University.

Yadav said: “The PG degree programmes of IMS used to draw the first preference among the state aspirants. It is expected that the intake through the all India competitive test will draw more meritorious candidates from other states and improve the visibility and placements of the students of these courses on all India basis.”

But for seeking admissions at LU programmes, the candidates will be required to fill the CAT form that will be available from main branches of SBI and IIMs from July 17 to August 17, 2006. Once they obtain their CAT registration number, they are required to apply at LU by filling the university form available at the Cashiers office for Rs. 700. The sale of university forms will begin from July 18, 2006 and will continue till November 18, 2006.

The form can also be down loaded from university site .  Those candidates presently in the third year of graduation who expect to complete their graduation requirements by June 2007 can also apply provisionally. Candidates aspiring for management courses of the university are advised to first complete the formalities required for appearing in the IIM (CAT) to be held on November 19 this year before filling the LU form.

The duly filled LU form along with the CAT registration number can be submitted at LU by November 30, 2006. AK Bajpai, OSD IMS and JK Sharma, the head of Business Administration department exuded confidence that with this method varsity would be able to get quality students and this would amount to better placement after the completion of the course.
