Vice Chancellor of a private university here was arrested for allegedly cheating students by enrolling them into an unregistered course and duping them of lakhs of rupees, police said.
Dhuli Chand Singhania, Vice Chancellor of Singhania University, was arrested on Saturday for enrolling students into Bachelor of Education (BEd) course without having permission to run the course, the police said.
The university without having approval from the NCET gave admission to students against 100 vacancies in 2008-09 academic session, and charged about one lakh rupees from each student, Hajari lal, SHO of Buhana Police station said.
An FIR was lodged against Singhania on September 14 last year by Vijay Pal Yadav who alleged that Singhania and other officials assured him that the university has approval for the course but later came to know that they had no permission.
The VC was arrested after charges were found true in the investigation conducted by police, he said.
However, the university has now got NCET approval for the 2009-10 academic session, but students who were enrolled last year were duped by the university, he said.
