Vedic hymns chanted for terrorists

india Updated: Oct 07, 2008 17:15 IST

In an effort to bring terrorists back to the mainstream, seers in Mathura have been chanting Vedic hymns for the past one week.

"The basic purpose of yagna is to change the thinking of terrorists and bring them back to mainstream of the country", Goverdhan Peethadheeshwar of Rama Nand Sect Acharya Krishna Das Kanchan Maharaj said in Mathura on Tuesday.

Referring to the mythological story of Bibhishan who deserted Ravana's camp following a change of heart after he saw the noble deeds of Lord Ram, Kanchan Maharaj said the yagna would pave the way for transformation of terrorists.

He said use of force against terrorists is no solution to the problem.

The yagna, which concludes tomorrow, has drawn pilgrims from different parts of the country.
