Vehicular traffic paralysed during Assam 'bandh'

Movement of vehicular traffic was paralysed on Wednesday along National Highway-31(C) and parts of lower Assam districts following a 13-hour Assam 'Bandh' called by a new militant outfit, Adivasi Liberation Front (ALF), official sources said.

The bandh, which began at 5am, was called to demand Scheduled Tribe status for the adivasis of Assam.

Normal life was affected partially in the districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang and parts of Bongaigaon district while it had no impact in other parts of the state.

There were no reports of untoward incidents from any area during the bandh period, sources added.
