The Faizabad district administration has given conditional clearance for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP’s) proposed 20-day panch kosi parikrama in Ayodhya from September 22.

District magistrate Faizabad Vipin Kumar Dewedi said Saturday that the parikrama has been cleared with the rider that it would conform to the 14-point restriction prescribed by the state government. Significantly, section 144 would be enforced throughout the temple town during the parikrama period.

“We won’t allow weapons, demonstrations, processions, flags, banners etc during the parikrama. Loudspeakers and DJ’s in the city will be prohibited from 10pm to 6am till September 30. Rallies or street plays too have been banned. He added that the route or the time of Parikrama could not be changed,” the DM said.

No community, he said, would be allowed to hold any kind of meeting in favor or against the parikrama and none would be permitted to distribute pamphlets about it.

Undeterred by the clampdown on its 84 kosi parikrama across six districts, the VHP has now planned another parikrama, which like the previous 84 kosi one, does not have a religious sanction at this time of the year. RM Srivastava, principal secretary home said in Lucknow that saints would not be allowed to move in groups of five or more during the parikrama. IG law and order RK Vishwakarma said 11 companies of CRPF and PAC have been deployed.

To ensure foolproof security, the complete Parikrama track is divided into 2-zones, 5-sectors and 10 sub-sectors. VHP’s Ayodhya-based spokesman Sharad Sharma stated that the saints from South India would regularly carry out a Yagna at Karsevakpuram followed by 5-Kosi-Parikrama from September 22.

Swami Shankar Deo of Andhra Pradesh will establish a special ‘Yagna-Peeth’ for the purpose. Commenting on the expected restrictions on VHP led 5-Kosi parikrama program he told that ban on 84-Kosi-Padyatra made it popular among masses.

Mahantha Ram Das who looks after the administration of Nirmohia Akhada and Naka Hanumangarhi and is disciple of Mahantha Bhaskar Das (one of the oldest litigant in Ayodhya case) said that traditionally saints of Ayodhya perform 5-Kosi parikrama on every Ekadashi but there is no religious restriction on performing 5-Kosi Parikrama of Ayodhya on a particular day.
