A two-member team of the National Commission for Women (NCW) met Monday’s mob molestation victim on Saturday and found cigarette burn injuries on her body.
“She said the incident happened when she was coming out of the bar along with her friend. Some youths tried to take their pictures in an inebriated state. The trouble began when the victim’s friend opposed this,” NCW member Alka Lamba said.
“She was tortured for 45 minutes. We found some cigarette burn injuries on her body. She is in shock and trauma and it will take time for her to recover,” Lamba said, adding the incident happened due to certain lapses.
“We have sought from the state government the setting up of a fast-track special court for action to be taken within six months.”
The NCW member further said she has asked the authorities to cancel the licence of the bar (Club Mint) since the girl was aged 20 years.
“The minimum age for a girl to enter a bar is 21 years,” she said, adding the women’s panel was trying to provide some financial assistance to the victim.
The NCW team will meet chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday and share its findings. It will submit its report to panel chairperson Mamta Sharma on Monday.
