The victory of the Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance in Siliguri Municipal Corporation elections was a portent of things to come in West Bengal, Union minister Salman Khurshid said today.

"It is very important and an indication of things to come in Bengal," Khurshid, the Union minister for Company Affairs said.

There was a distinct change and the wind was blowing in a different direction with the hard work by the Congress and Trinamool Congress paying off, he told reporters after the victory of the allies in the corporation in North Bengal after 27 years. Asked about factors responsible for bringing political change to the state, he said that the aspirations of the people had not been met by the CPI-M during its prolonged rule.

The Congress-TC combine captured the corporation bagging 29 of the 47 seats. An independent backed by the alliance has also won.
